Greetings Citizens of Washington County,
I am Brian Albert, from Clear Spring, and I am proud to announce my Republican candidacy for Sheriff of Washington County. I am a native and lifelong resident of Washington County, with more than 28 years of law enforcement experience.
I grew up in the Clear Spring area, worked with my mother and father at the old Conococheague Grocery (Albert’s) store, and graduated from Clear Spring High School in 1985. After graduation, I served in the United States Air Force and returned to Maryland in 1991. Combining my love of the outdoors with my desire to serve my fellow citizens, I applied for a law enforcement job with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Upon graduation from the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy, I was assigned patrol duties on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.
I advanced from officer to sergeant, managing personnel in several counties. I became a supervisor with the Maryland Natural Resources Police Criminal Investigation Division, which handles serious criminal offenses, commercial conservation crimes, and fatal accidents on state waterways and public lands. I was promoted to lieutenant and assigned to be area commander for Montgomery, Carroll and Howard counties and the Baltimore City Marine Patrol Units. I concluded my NRP career as captain and western regional commander for Garrett, Allegany, Washington and Frederick counties.
I currently serve as the assistant director of the Washington County 9-1-1 Center, which I started in May 2019. I oversee the center’s operations and budget.
My wife, Susan, and I have always called Washington County our home, where we raised our two daughters. I have coached area youth and high school soccer and served as a trustee for the Locomotive Soccer Club. I was appointed by the Washington County Commissioners to the Emergency Services Board and to serve on the Parks and Recreation Board. I also have served on advisory committees for the Washington County Board of Education.
My entire adult life has been dedicated to public service. I would like to continue that service to you, my Washington County neighbors. If elected, I promise to serve our county and the communities and families within it with a fresh perspective and dedicated focus on today’s issues and your concerns.
